Wolves chasing moose and calf in Belly River area,

Post by paul »

Saw this on youtube. I think it was taken recently. It's somewhere near Elizabeth lake head camp. I'll be there next week.

Wow. Pretty exciting! I didn’t realize there was a wolf pack in that area. They have been in the North Fork for years so I guess not that far away. The Blackfeet just removed their cattle from around the Chief Mountain area so hopefully there will be less chance for conflict with the pack. I know the wolves need to eat but I’m glad the moose calf escaped unharmed. I definitely would not want to upset a mamma moose.

I read a book, several years ago, by a researcher studying the wolves in the Belly River area and other northern parts of GNP. Have forgotten the name of the researcher but was impressed to learn that the wolf population extended into Canada, probably along the river's watershed. It looks as though a population is still in situ.
