Have Flask, Will Travel

Post by Pizza Bob »

A new tradition I've adopted this year is to always travel with my trusty flask, filled
with an appropriate libation to be imbibed on reaching a destination on a hike. The flask
is etched with a "GD" from Glacier Distilling in Coram, which is practically staggering
distance from West Glacier -- stop by for a tasting if you are in the area!

While hiking back from Piegan Pass, I caught up to this lovely group of young ladies. On inquiring
why they all had the similar day-glo socks, they informed me that they were on a Bachelorette
party from Florida that decided they would go hiking for a week in Glacier. What an awesome idea!
The flask made me an honorary, and very very temporary, member of their group.

PizzaBob !
ROFLMAO!
I'm sitting here eating my oatmeal this morning...
And almost choked laughing when I scrolled down and saw the bit about the girls on the "bachelorette outing".
Have Flask, Will Travel!!

You should look up JayW as well as Jen.
I think I saw Jay with a flask once upon a time.
You'll fit right in with this crowd 8)

I'm headed out to Logan this morning. Maybe get some pics at sunrise.
I heard there have been goats and bears hanging around up there lately?
Dunno where else I can go today. The road will be closing soon, so....
I'll be up there someplace if you get up there. Look for bright orange or lime green

Great post Jim :)

So many offers of hiking companions ....
Me'thinks I may need to invest in a larger flask!
(not that it would be burden)

PizzaBob :)

I got your note yesterday up at Logan pass.
Riding your bike to Rising Sun and back up to Logan ?
Seriously, you need to get with JayW some day. That's his kind of thing.
Riding my bike out to Many Glacier and back from the dam was plenty for me 8)
I didn't get back to the lot until about 3:30PM. I didn't see your car so you must have left by then.
It was a great day for walking or riding though wasn't it?
It'd been criminal to stay home.

Love the flask! I always bring a little nip on backpacking trips. Great way to relax and celebrate after camp is set up. (Also sometimes flambee my freeze-dried dessert.)

This brings up an important question, however. What is the best thing to fill that flask with, considering that it has to be enjoyable and worth the weight?

I try to balance the variables of best flavor and most alcohol content. Recent test drinks include Krakken (spiced rum) and Rumpleminze (higher alcohol peppermint schnapps).

What do you fellow nippers like to sip?

Foot shots have been surpassed and will fade into oblivion. BTW, the flask is MUCH classier than the Burger King Milk Bottle I use. On the other hand, no one ever asks for a sip of my "milk".....

An interesting idea. The pink flamingo with a very practical use. I like it.
