The earliest award date is March 21 and the latest is April 30. I would definitely trade my April 21 for your April 1.

April 29th for me......just shy of the open for the public. At least one step above "unsuccessful". None the less, if nothing is left we might try the walk in approach

Sigh. Unsuccessful. As was someone else I know who is not on the chat, but unfortunately I can't add another vote to the poll on their behalf...Maybe the mod can?

Anyway, I hope the rest of you get the permit of your dreams!

Hey, for those that have received a positive outcome for the lottery. What time are you seeing? Is it 7 am MST on the day you were awarded?

Out of the five of us that I know submitted, three were unsuccessful. One received, April 19th and the other April 29th. Hopefully, our dates and campsites in September hold up till then that one of us is able to secure something otherwise, it will be frontcountry camping and day hiking or try for the walk in permits which we will probably try to do.

Yeah, I figure I'm in the first third of the permits.

I think they just assign a group of people a day and it starts at 7am MDT. So I figure about 75 people day if the total is 3000. I think it might better if they broke that up into two hour intervals as to reduce any possible conflicts.

We'll see how this works out going forward but I am surprised at the initial survey results. Nearly half the respondents did not get a slot. I was thinking maybe 25% at the most would swing and miss.

Again, as I posted in another thread, I would be very interested in just how many applications were received by Rec.gov.

It does seem odd that almost 50% of the applications failed to get a spot. With 3000 permits you'd think maybe only about a quarter might not get anything.

Agreed Scott and Paul - I didn’t even have an ‘unsuccessful’ option at first because I assumed there would be plenty based on past application numbers.

I asked the NPS and they said around 7000 applications ?!

That seems about right with 3000 available and 50% miss rate from our poll.

Perhaps those of us advocating for a lottery shot ourselves in the foot. This fairer easier system may have encouraged more people to take a shot. I entered the North Cascades lottery this year for the first time because it was right there on the web page while I was entering the Glacier lottery. And all the little tricks I have learned over the past few years were moot this year. In any event if need be I can navigate the walk in process with the best of them. It could be worse (and maybe soon will be), the success rate in the Enchantment lottery in the Cascades was 6% this year.

I retract my previous statement.
Looking yesterday at the Rec.gov site 3 of us were listed as "unsuccessful "
Yet today two of us have permits
March 28th and April 1st

That 7000 application number is probably the highest its ever been. I bet groups trying to get one permit have everyone in the group apply to increase their chances. The problem is a group of 4 might actually have 4 successful permit wins, but they will only use one for the most part. Which forces out other 3 other applicants in the early permit process. So my guess is the May 1st opening date may be a mad scramble for what is left.
