Do I need to bring Bear bagging gear?

Post by ddinboston »

The Glacier backcountry guide is a little contradictory. On one hand it says there are "food hanging or storage devices" at each backcountry campground. But then it goes on to say that you'll need a "stuff sack and 25 feet of rope". Which is it? We are staying at ELF, MOL, and WAT. Do I need to bring my bear bagging gear or will there be something available when I get there?

Thanks.

A food-hanging device is simply a pole or possibly a line stretched between trees. You'll need the bag and the rope to hang your food from the pole. You won't need the rope if there's a storage box, but you'll still want a bag. Bottom line: bring both the bag and the rope.
