The House of the Rising Sun

Post by Pizza Bob »

Oh mother, tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

Saturday was a day "that went to eleven". Superb clear fall weather.
Minimal crowds -- at least until noon. A whole park full of choice things
to do. I chose to bike from Logan Pass to Rising Sun and back up since
I had not seen much of the burnt out area. Last summer's fire has opened
up yet more stunning views of St. Marys lake which had been hidden
by all those pesky trees.

I'm more a runner than biker, and found the last grind after the tunnel to
be a bit challenging. It was about 40 minutes down (with taking photos), and
about 2.5 hours up. Another couple biking down let me know that a bear
had crossed the road in front of them near the Gunsight trailhead as I slowly
crawled up that area of the road ... alone. A bit disconcerting.

Looks like they'll let any old geezer park at Logan Pass these days :) The
Dragon's Tail photos are outstanding as always, Pete.

Could stay here all day enjoying the view. Didn't I once see this in a movie?

It is amazing how Kubrick took jaw dropping, beautiful scenery and made it creepy with the right soundtrack.

On a semi-related note, 10/4/2014 (over a year ago) was the start of a Shining Many Glacier blog.

I hope this year's redrum caretaker will provide a blog.
