Two Med Ski

Post by Crooked Wood »

Hello- First post, but I've been reading posts on the forum.
I skied into 2 med 2 weekends ago on 11/22/15. Drove 3 miles to the gate, then skied 4.5 miles into a 20+ mph headwind into the valley. The road was windblown and at times there were just two frozen tire tracks to ski on. I skied into Scenic Point trail, then hiked up to Apistoki Falls, then skied down to the lakeshore, then into Running Eagle Falls on the way out (nice tailwind). It was an awesome day! Nobody out there. Photos might be too big. I hope to get back out there again this winter. The NPS says the county is responsible for plowing the road to the gate (It wasn't plowed that day, just packed down from vehicles).

Hey Pete- I met you this fall, on the last day Logan Pass was open. You were heading up Dragon's Tail. I continued up Reynolds for a bit.
See ya out there again.
You can always strap on some snowshoes.

Oh Lordy! 8)
Isn't life something?

I see you finally were able to get registered.
I do remember meeting you that day. I'd been up on the so-called "un-named" ridge earlier that morning.
And you had summited Oberlin that morning as I recall.
All this got me looking back and I realized I never posted the video of the Dragon's Tail part of that day.
Same day I tore a hunk of skin off my palm on that rock just shy of the false summit. Blood everywhere :(

And yeah, I have snowshoes. Not really enough snow right now in the places convenient for me.
However, I plan to make a bigger effort getting out snowshoeing this year than in the past.
So you might see me again out there this winter!

Welcome to the chat!

Great photos!!
Are those two old dead trees on the trail to Scenic Point? If so it looks like they've lost most of their branches since I saw them last....

Yes, lot's of old, dead, weathered trees along the trail (whitebark pine ?)
Earlier this spring, I came around that point and there was a wolf coming up on the trail. He turned and bolted down to the creek and up the side of Apistoki. He was sooo fast, I wasn't able to get much of a shot.
