It's been exactly a year since I skied (almost) to the Loop and captured some awesome images of ice in the Westside Tunnel.
There was new snow last week, so I headed to Avalanche to ski to The Loop.
No one on the road yet, so I thought I'd have first tracks. Just as I was ready to ski, a concrete truck rolls up, unlocks the gate, and proceeds to chain up. He said they had one final pour to do in the tunnel. He said it was the latest he's ever poured.
It ruined the experience a bit knowing there were guys up there working, but the skiing was easier in his tracks.
By the time I reached the tunnel, they were pouring and finishing concrete. I took some photos for a bit and then continued to the Loop, and hiked out the trail to the creek. Beautiful back in there with new snow on the bridge and creek.
When I came back down they had finished pouring. They were short about 2 wheelbarrows of concrete! So 3 guys had to wait a couple hours for another truck.
I was glad I finally made it to the Loop. Looks like the road is closed at Lake MacDonald now for the season. It was about 15 miles round trip. There was no huge icicles or ice flows in the tunnel this time.
I shot a short video of the guys pouring.
