Sperry Topsiders

Post by Ear Mountain »

Glacier Mountaineering Society member Ben Darce posted this 5:18 minute video on YouTube from his recent trip up to Sperry Glacier and Gunsight Mountain. Ah, spring in Glacier. Beautiful warm sun one day and possible a blizzard the next. But the "Topsiders" apparently enjoyed sunshine.
Definitely not something we all might try but it definitely gets the juices flowing.

Incredible accomplishment and the video is super.
That almost straight down camera angle walking those knife edge ridges gave me the Heebee Geebees!!!

Looks like fun. At least they were able to ski some of the return trip (although the south facing snow may have been a little rough).

I've hiked from Lake McDonald to Sperry Glacier, then to the Chalet and back down in one day (about 21 miles) and I was pretty tired afterwards. They went at least 2 more miles, up to a higher elevation -- IN SNOW! Ah, to be young and immortal again. Quite an incredible video.

I particularly enjoyed seeing them ski down "the stairs" at Comeau Pass.
